HMS Consultants has built expertise and experience in many areas. Some of our many projects are detailed below:

Corporate Governance

Idemitsu – Corporate Governance & Business Sustainability. HMS assisted Idemitsu defining its corporate risk profile and provided advice to help establish appropriate corporate and management structures. HMS also facilitated the development of Idemitsu’s corporate policies and standards to enable the company to establish an operating structure for corporate sustainability and growth.

Xstrata – Mine Options Decision Analysis. Xstrata engaged HMS to assist in the analysis of the possible future direction of one of Xstrata’s underground coal mines. The decision analysis facilitated the identification of key issues arising from future direction options and assisted in the development of a strategy for achieving the best future direction decision for the mine.

Anglo Coal – Risk Management Standards HSEC Management Standards. HMS has assisted Anglo Coal in the development of a range of corporate standards. Amongst these was the Multiple Fatality Risk Management Plan Standard, as well as Standards for the Management of Open Cut Ground Control, Mobile Equipment and Blasting.

Business Performance Management

Centennial – Mandalong Mine Operations Management System. HMS was engaged by Centennial to assist in the development of an Operations Management System. The Operations Management System included the collection, compilation and reporting of relevant data, designing the daily and weekly planning review meetings, as well as the permit to mine system. HMS developed an Operational Management System with seamless integration with the medium and annual plan.

Anglo – Mooranbah Mine Coal on Belt Project Review. HMS was engaged to undertake a third party review of the coal on belt process improvement undertaken by another management consultancy. HMS reviewed the sustainability of the business performance KPIs.

Project Management

Protavia – Penola Pulp Mill Project. HMS are assisting Protavia with the development of the mill Operation and Maintenance Contract, leading a team of engineers, estimators and commercial people.

Idemitsu – Business Sustainability & Growth Implementation. HMS is assisting Idemitsu in the development and implementation of the Sustainability and Growth Project.

Mining & Technical Reviews

Ensham - Underground Coal Mine Feasibility. HMS assisted Ensham through undertaking a mine planning review and risk assessment of the Underground Mine Feasibility Study. Subsequently, Idemitsu engaged HMS to undertake a HSEC review of the same project.

Centennial - Anvil Hill Feasibility. Centennial engaged HMS to assist in the undertaking of evaluations, risk assessments and finalisation of the Anvil Hill feasibility.

Enterprise Risk Management

Olympic Dam Operations - HMS has recently been engaged by Olympic Dam to assist in the development of this mine, processing plant and smelter risk registers.

Ensham - Dragline Procurement Project Risk Management Program. HMS was engaged to assist Ensham in the entire procurement process, from determining the machine operational requirements, procurement & manufacture to erection and commissioning. The risk management program was highly successful in facilitating record construction of the dragline, being on budget, and six weeks earlier than the previous record for that the same size machine.

Illawarra Coal - West Cliff Colliery Vocsidizer Functional Failure Mode Effect & Criticality Analysis (FMECA). HMS assisted the design team of undertake a functional level FMECA of the Vocsidizer plant design to enable detailed design finalisation.

Xstrata Coal – 11kV Longwall Armoured Face Conveyor Drive Fault Tree Analysis. HMS assisted Beltana Mine to undertake detailed analysis of the risks of introducing 11kV to the longwall panel production face. The 11kV AFC drive will assist the Blakefield South Mine to achieve 10Mtpa from a single longwall face.

Auditing

Anglo Coal – Global Audit Program. HMS was engaged by Anglo Coal to assist with their global internal audit program which is aligned with the corporate risk profile, including: mine planning; operations planning; and major hazard management event risk.

Xstrata Coal – Global Audit of Major HSEC Hazards Management. HMS has recently been selected to provide the technical expertise to lead the Xstrata global Major HSEC Hazard Audits.
